TI 99/4

I have been around computers all of my life. My father began working with computers when I was very young as a mainframe programmer primarily on IBMs and Amdahls. The first computer we owned was a TI-99/4 (not a 4A!)

I used to program in TI-BASIC using sprites to animate and actually had the speech synthesis modules and my father and I would code Armenian teaching programming using sprites and the speech.

Later we owned a huge CP/M machine that sat in the garage that I would code BASIC programs on. My father would run dBase II on it and wrote programs for various companies. Our next CP/M machine was an Apple IIe

with a Microsoft CP/M card in it. My father and I continued programming here and my uncle turned me onto C programming and bought me a C compiler for the Apple.

My first IBM clone came as the Beltron 8088 and we also had our first 1200 baud modem (I was fortunate enough to skip the 300baud world). After learning about CompuServe from friends, I began looking around at BBSes and eventually ran a BBS called Middle Earth Enterprises with my friend Steven Brenner who is now an associate professor of Genetics at UC Berkley.

I graduated from RPI with a Computer and Systems Engineering degree. My work with coding and other things along the way burned me out of programming and I went into control systems. I started my professional career as a systems engineer for a media control systems manufacturer. My job was to customize the software to allow their hardware to control other devices such as VCRs, DVDs, projectors, video conferencing systems, etc. These systems were mostly installed in conference rooms, high-end home theaters, schools, and government.

My Internet world started in the early 90s with my first dial-up terminal accounts. I landed my first IT infrastructure job in 1995 just as the web began to explode. Since then I had moved up the ranks at that large financial firm in their IT department. After 11 years, I took a position as CIO for a small financial firm in NYC. I am also the acting CIO for a number of other SMB financials and consult for others. Most of my work has been Windows and ancillary technologies (SQL, Microsoft, Citrix, etc.) as well as storage, security, and emerging technology.

I currently hold certifications with Microsoft (MCSE from Windows NT 4, 2000, and 2003), Citrix, and a CISSP and a Masters in Business Administration in Management of Information Systems
